The Peer Advocates Program is a peer-to-peer sex education program for Riverside county based students to encourage informed, safe, and healthy decision-making amongst their peers on their reproductive and sexual health. The role of a Peer Advocate is to educate, outreach, engage, and help increase awareness of reproductive and sexual health and Planned Parenthood services and programs.

Coachella Valley

As a Peer Youth Advocate, youth will:

  • Engage in sexual health training to increase knowledge, leadership and advocacy skills.
  • Promote the importance of advocating for health, healthy relationships, and gender equality.
  • Meet weekly with Planned Parenthood staff to create social media content and plan school-wide and community outreach events.
  • Be known resources for sexual health information in their schools and communities.
  • Gain confidence in their communication, leadership, and public speaking skills.

The students will be selected through a screening process and are expected to commit to one school year in the Peer Youth Advocate Program. The program will consist of trainings, monthly meetings, and outreach activities that can count towards community service hours.
